In this talk, the dominant methods for the three‐dimensional thermoelastic analysis of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous solids are overviewed. Special attention is given to the method of direct integration with regard to solving the problems in terms of stresses. Some aspects of the three‐dimensional formulation in terms of stresses (the Southwell Paradox, sufficiency of the Beltrami‐Michell Equations, etc.) are discussed.
Professor Yuriy Tokovyy is currently the head of the department of solid mechanics at National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He obtained his PhD (Mechanics of Solids) at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2003. In 2013, he received his Doctor‐of‐Sciences (Mechanics of Solids) degree from the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine. The main research interests: direct and inverse problems of thermomechanics of nonhomogeneous and thermo‐sensitive solids, analytical and semianalytical methods of mathematical physics. He published over 220 scientific papers, a number of critical reviews and encyclopedia essays. He is a Board member of several scientific journals (Journal of Thermal Stresses, Bulletin of the Donetsk University A, Mathematical Methods and Physico‐Mechanical Fields). In 2012 – 2013, he was engaged as a section editor of the “Encyclopedia of Thermal Stresses” (Springer, 2014).
